How are you doing so far? I hope you are enjoying the book of Mark. Let me know how you are feeling about it. Is a chapter a day too much?
2:4 - Are we so determined to bring our needs to the father? We have direct access! We don't have to dig a hole in a roof and be lowered down to him. We can stay where we are and talk directly to him!
2:8 - The definition of discernment is to detect with the senses, trait of judging wisely and objectively...
Jesus knew what the Pharisees were thinking because he had discernment in the spirit. This comes with spending time in the word, in prayer knowing Jesus. Your spirit becomes more aware.
2:17 - It isn't the healthy people who need a doctor but the sick. Jesus is the doctor and those who don't know him are the sick. (Psalm 107:20)
2:18-22 - Eating with someone meant to seal a solemn bond of friendship. Jesus was eating with people while other religious people were fasting. Jesus wanted to share in relationship with them while he was still with them. Fasting wasn't needed while he was still among them.
2:23-28 - Jesus was being watched like a hawk! There wasn't anywhere that he went that he wasn't being scrutinized, judged and questioned. Often we experience this as Christians. Once someone knows you are a Christian, they may watch your responses, reactions, how you handle yourself in situations. Are you living up to the standard Jesus set? Often times we aren't and feel that people are just waiting to call us out on the carpet. Have you experienced being treated this way? In this situation do you feel or have you felt that you handled yourself well or have you become defensive?

Yesterday I attempted to post a comment, but it didn't work. Hopefully this will. Personally, I will probably respond 1 day late, due to my schedule. My comment from yesterday was: I feel breathless just trying to keep up with Mark and his very fast style of reporting events. It's interesting that he does not include the birth events in his commentary, almost as if he just is such a hurry to get the Good News out that he didn't think it was important.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this opportunity to participate in this study, Grace & Peace, Susan Easterling
I beleive that people are more critical of me as a Christian. Sometimes I feel they are just waiting for me to fail just so to have fuel to criticize. I know what they fail to realize is that we have such a forgiving god who enables us to stand right up and try again. I know there has been instenses where I have not reacted well and been defensive, but can also see how much I have grown and learned how to better handle myself in times of being attacked. And so it reinforces how Jesus is working through me and am able to testify to those who have are doubting me and my faith.
ReplyDeleteI am a day late getting started. My 44th birthday was yesterday. I think the book of Mark is cool. I find the time that Jesus walked on earth to be very fascinating and intriguing. So, with that said I would have loved to have walked around with Jesus and been able to sit at his feet and just listen to him. That is what I want to do on this journey through the book of Mark with my new blogging friends. I want to sit at Jesus' feet and listen and discern what HE wants me to hear from him on this online journey. I look forward to hearing from HIM, my saviour Jesus!! I am daring myself to just sit at Jesus feet. No taking notes during this online journey. Just me, sitting at Jesus' feet reading the book of Mark and listening to what my heavenly father wants to speak to me. Most of you really do not know me, becuase we just moved here in June. So, for me to sit still is sometimes hard. I love to keep moving. I love to serve the Lord. God has made it very clear that he wants me to be still and hear HIS voice. OK God I promise to be still and just listen in the coming weeks. Thanks Pam for this adventure and hello to all my new online friends!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Laura! I hope you had a great day!
ReplyDeleteI love all the comments! Keep them coming! I know it will help us to get to know each other better and to Our Savior better too! Love you guys!
